Follow us

As it turns out, part of living in Israel is enjoying the wonderful getaways our Land has to offer. Israelis are known for traveling a lot around the world, as many of them go out on a Sabbatical year after serving in the Israeli Army.

If you are not married, chances are you have more freedom to travel and explore the country. But even if you are married and with kids, chances are you will want to take some vacation during summer break when schools close for at least 2 weeks. This is, of course, part of moving to Israel!

Despite its relatively small land area, Israel boasts beautiful landscapes, refreshing spas and beaches, and, of course, incredible spirituality. Nevertheless, when it comes to going out on vacation, there are 5 main options that hold a special place in Israelis’ hearts.

Check them out:

1. Tzfat

Tzfat (literally “view” in Hebrew) is the ancient Kabbalistic city up North. It’s been the home to many famous Kabbalists throughout the ages, and the mountainous region has, as its name suggests an amazing view, giving it incredible fresh air. Tzfat has been an important Jewish center when the first pilgrims settled in Israel.

It is an ancient Jewish custom to make pilgrimages and pray at kivrei Tzaddikim (graves of the righteous), and Tzfat boasts more than 400 such sites in its old cemetery.

Whether you are into Kabbalah or not, Tzfat’s lovely scenery of the old city, art market, and recreation stores are sure to recharge your energies.

2. Golan Heights and wineries

Are you into wine tasting? I mean, really great wines?

Then you have to visit the many wineries in the Golan region also up north (Tzfat is more to the West, while the Golan is more to the East). Home to more than 10 winemakers, the Golan and surrounding regions offer many options for wine tasting and shopping spree with its many artisanal stores.

The region’s many hotels and proximity to the Sea of Galilee (the Kinneret) make the Golan Heights the perfect getaway for old couples or young couples without kids. Israeli wine is known for its high quality and a lot of them are exported to the rest of the world, and not only for merely being kosher for religious Jews abroad.

3. Tveria

Tveria (or Tiberias) is famous for its many natural springs and water parks. Located right next to the Kinneret, it is a great option for couples with kids thanks to its many hotels and recreation sites.

Its current name was given in honor of the Roman Emperor Tiberius but according to Jewish tradition, it was built upon the ancient Israelite city of Rakkath! It has lovely weather even during winter, and provides many attractions.

The city also hosts many graves from Tzaddikim such as Rabbi Meir Ba’al HaNes, Rabbi Akiva, R’ Moshe Chaim Luzzatto (the Ramchal) and R’ Moshe Ben Maimon (the Rambam) making it also a very popular pilgrimage city.

4. Beaches in Tel Aviv and Akko

Who doesn’t like the beach? Clearly, if your intention is just to relax, sunbathe and swim in the sea, there’s no better option than Tel Aviv and Akko.

With a large number of hotels, restaurants, museums, cinemas, and theaters, Tel Aviv is the most cosmopolitan and vibrant city in Israel. It is also considered the business center of the country, home to more than 6.000 organizations.

Situated right North of Tel Aviv, Akko also offers beaches, water parks, ferries, and historical and culinary experiences that will delight its young and old visitors. Both options are suitable for all types of visitors.

5. The Dead Sea

We couldn’t end this list without mentioning the famous Dead Sea. Being one of the saltiest reservoirs of natural water in the world, the Dead Sea is known for its healing mud and the archeological discovery of the Dead Sea Scrolls in the caves near the ruins of Qumran. Surprisingly, sunbathing in the Dead Sea poses less risk for sunburn than other places due to its low altitude region.

Most people who come to visit Israel end up visiting the Dead Sea because it’s a really important tourist attraction. In fact, it’s the lowest altitude point on Earth!

Many high-end and luxurious resorts and spas are situated around the region, making it an amazing getaway option for couples of all ages.

As you can see, making Aliyah has many advantages and gives you plenty of opportunities to explore Israel! But even if you are not yet ready to start living in Israel, you can still enjoy its many beautiful attractions.
